Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of stealing and selling seized properties arrested suspects at ridiculous prices.
Akpabio made the remarks while overseeing the screening and confirmation process for the newly appointed EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, and the Commission’s Secretary, Muhammad Hammajoda, during the Wednesday plenary session.
While addressing Olukoyede, Akpabio asked him to tell Nigerians how he wants to run the affairs of the EFCC in a more civilised manner compared to what his predecessors did.
According to him, the EFCC claimed it is arresting corrupt Nigerians but its officials are stealing monies and properties seized from suspects.
A livid Akpabio said “Even within EFCC, properties and monies that you recover are stolen. Peoples properties that are supposed to be in your care are stolen and sold out at ridiculous prices. Properties worth N5million are sold for N300”.
