Tension is brewing in the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) over the appointment of Deputy Comptroller General of Immigration, Wuraola Adepoju as the acting Comptroller General of Immigration.

Immigration officials who spoke with our correspondent on Tuesday said Adepoju is meant to retire from the service tomorrow, May 31st 2023.

While calling for the appointment of a substantive CG of Immigration, the officials said contrary to reports, thd Civil Defense, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board did not approve Adepoju’s appointment.

According to a senior Immigration official ” The Board did not approve it. The Secretary to the Board simply sent a letter to the outgoing CG to handover to the most senior DCG in accordance with the tradition”.

“But the most senior DCG, Wura-Ola Adepoju will also retire on the 31st May which means she will only sit in or oversee the office for one day. That doesn’t make any sense and that is why many of the officers are disgruntled and calling for the appointment of a substantive CG by the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu”.

The position became vacant after the tenure of the former Comptroller-General Isah Idris Jere which was extended by former president Muhammadu Buhari expired on the 29th of May, 2023.
