Chioma Akpotha: An Epitome of Good Wife!

I wish Femi Adebayo or someone in the production team of “Seven Doors”, could give an explanation on why Chioma Akpotha was cast for that role. Chioma so killed that character that I’m almost convinced no one else could have played that role.

Typical of our mothers back in the day, she was truly the lifewire of her husband, and had his mumu button 100 per cent without flaunting it, no matter the situation.

An Igbo wife, not just in a Yoruba home but royal family seems almost impossible for many reasons, including cultural contraditions. But everything was surreal and she played that part so well.

  1. I liked how she convinced her husband to take up a calling she had no clue would complicate her life. I also liked how she tried to backtrack by convincing him to abdicate the throne and move on when the wahala started trickling in.
  2. I liked how she remained calm in the face of frustration and victimisation by other thoughtless Yoruba wives, like a quintessential first wife in a familiar polygamous setting. A particular case in point was when two other wives threw away her food before a guest.
  3. I liked how she aborted her decision to leave the palace with her son after the frustration peaked and rushed back inside the palace to cover up her naked husband-king. You could see love in her eyes. Palpable!
  4. I liked how she constantly persuaded the king each time things got to a head and he was almost giving up. She knew how to get him to calm down. A typical wife of a man’s youth.
  5. The most interesting for me, however, was how she rushed to hold her husband in the end after he returned from defeating Esusu and was all bloodied. Establishing her place in his life and the palace, the other wives watched her lift their husband in admiration, gratitude and celebration. That scene finished everything for me.

Ladies and gentlemen, please, give it up for Chioma Akpotha, the latest addition of an Igbo wife by another Yoruba demon, this time, a king.
